Jami at-Tirmidhi 1140 (Book 11, Hadith 62) #26708
Dividing Time Equally and Asking Forgiveness

SUMMARY: The Prophet divided his time equally between his wives and asked Allah not to punish him for what he had no control over.

Aishah narrated that: The Prophet would divide (his time) equally between his wives and said: "O Allah! This is my division in what I have control over, so do not punish me for what You have control over which I do not have control over".

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for fairness and justice in dealings with others; Make sacrifices or compromises if necessary; Seek forgiveness from Allah when making mistakes or failing obligations.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet's practice of dividing his time equally between his wives. He was aware that he could only do so much in terms of controlling how he spent his time, so he asked Allah not to punish him for what was beyond his control. This teaches us that we should strive to be fair and just in our dealings with others, even if it means making sacrifices or compromises. We should also remember that ultimately, Allah is the one who controls all things, so we must always seek His forgiveness when we make mistakes or fail to meet our obligations.
