SUMMARY: It is not acceptable to express grief in the manner of pre-Islamic times.

Abdullah narrated that: The Prophet said: "He who slaps (his) cheeks, tears (his) clothes and calls with the call of the Jahiliyyah is not one of us".

QUICK LESSONS:
Pray & Supplicate To Allah SWT
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith, narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, speaks about expressing grief in a way that is accepted by Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that those who slap their cheeks, tear their clothes and call out with the call of pre-Islamic times are not part of his followers. This means that it is not acceptable to express grief in the manner of pre-Islamic times. Instead, Muslims should show their sorrow through prayer and supplication to Allah SWT for guidance and mercy. They should also remember that Allah SWT knows best and has a plan for everything; He will never burden us with more than we can bear.
