Responding to Allah's Call

SUMMARY: This hadith is about the importance of responding to Allah's call and being obedient to His orders.

Nafi' narrated: When Ibn Umar would say the talbiyah he would continue saying: "Labaik Allahumma Labaik. Labaik la sharika laka Labaik. Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk, la sharika laka" (I respond to Your call O Allah! I respond to Your call, You have no partner, I respond to You call. All praise, thanks and blessings are for You. And You have no partners with You). He said: "Abdullah bin Umar would say: 'This is the Talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah'. He would himself add the following after the Talbiyah of the Messenger of Allah: "Labaik Labbaika wa-sa'daik, wal-khairuu fi yadaik. Labbaika war-raghba'u ilaika wal-amal" ('I respond to Your call, and I am obedient to Your orders, all good is in Your Hands. I respond to Your call and the requests and deeds are for You)'."

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the importance of responding to Allah's call and being obedient to His orders. It is narrated by Nafi', who heard it from Abdullah bin Umar. The hadith mentions a special prayer called the talbiyah which was said by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself. The talbiyah includes phrases such as "Labaik Allahumma Labaik" which means "I respond to Your call O Allah!" and "Innal-hamda wan-ni'mata laka wal-mulk" which means "All praise, thanks and blessings are for You". In addition, Abdullah bin Umar added his own words after the talbiyah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ such as "Labaik Labbaika wa-sa'daik" which means "I respond to Your call and I am obedient to Your orders". This hadith teaches us that we should always be ready and willing to respond positively when we hear or feel God calling us in our hearts. We should also strive hard in obeying His commands so that He may be pleased with us.
