The Virtue of Fasting on Mondays and Thursdays

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) loves that his deeds are presented to Allah while he is fasting.

Abu Hurairah narrated that: the Messenger of Allah said: "Deeds are presented on Monday and Thursday, and I love that my deeds be presented while I am fasting".
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ، عَنْ سُهَيْلِ بْنِ أَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ تُعْرَضُ الأَعْمَالُ يَوْمَ الاِثْنَيْنِ وَالْخَمِيسِ فَأُحِبُّ أَنْ يُعْرَضَ عَمَلِي وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فِي هَذَا الْبَابِ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the virtue of fasting on Mondays and Thursdays. It was narrated by Abu Hurairah, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad, that the Messenger of Allah said “Deeds are presented on Monday and Thursday, and I love that my deeds be presented while I am fasting”. This hadith encourages us to fast on Mondays and Thursdays as it is a way for us to gain reward from Allah for our good deeds. It also teaches us that we should strive to do good deeds even when we are in a state of worship such as fasting so that our rewards can be multiplied. Furthermore, this hadith shows us how much importance the Prophet Muhammad placed upon worshipping Allah through acts such as fasting which is why he loved it when his own deeds were presented while he was in this state.
