Sahih al-Bukhari 2706 (Book 53, Hadith 16) #2588
Forgiveness of Debts

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) advised Ka'b bin Malik to forgive half of the debt owed to him by Abdullah bin Abu Hadrad Al-Aslami.

Narrated 'Abdullah bin Ka'b bin Malik from Ka'b bin Malik: 'Abdullah bin Abu Hadrad Al-Aslami owed Ka'b bin Malik some money. One day the latter met the former and demanded his right, and their voices grew very loud. The Prophet passed by them and said, "O Ka'b," beckoning with his hand as if intending to say, "Deduct half the debts". So, Ka'b took half what the other owed him and remitted the other half.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of forgiveness and mercy when it comes to debts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ saw two people arguing over a debt and he advised them to forgive half of it. This teaches us that we should be merciful and forgiving when dealing with our debts, as Allah is merciful and forgiving towards us. We should not be too harsh or demanding when asking for our rights, but instead show mercy and kindness in order for Allah to show mercy upon us in return.
