The Middle Prayer of the Day

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught that the middle prayer of the day is the Asr prayer.

Abdullah bin Mas'ud narrated that : Allah's Messenger said: "Salatul-Wusta is the Asr prayer".
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلاَنَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ الطَّيَالِسِيُّ، وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ مُصَرِّفٍ، عَنْ زُبَيْدٍ، عَنْ مُرَّةَ الْهَمْدَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ صَلاَةُ الْوُسْطَى صَلاَةُ الْعَصْرِ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith teaches us that there are five daily prayers in Islam and one of them is called Asr. It is also known as Salatul-Wusta which means ‘the middle prayer’. This hadith was narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ud who was a companion of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He was known for his knowledge and piety and he learned many teachings from Prophet Muhammad himself. Therefore, this hadith carries great importance as it teaches us about one of the five daily prayers in Islam which we must perform to stay connected with Allah Almighty. We should make sure to offer our prayers on time every day so that we can stay close to Allah and receive His blessings in our lives.
