Sunan Abi Dawud 4922 (Book 43, Hadith 150) #25213
Remembering the Martyrs of Badr

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) visited a woman who had recently been married and encouraged her children to remember the martyrs of Badr and to recognize his prophetic knowledge.

Al-Ruhayyi’, daughter of Mu’awwidh b. 'Afra’, said : The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) came and visited me in the morning when I had been conducted to my husband, and sat on my bedding as you are sitting beside me. Some little girls of ours began to play the tambourine and eulogise those of my ancestors who were killed in the battle of Badr, and then one of them said: And among us is a Prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow. He said : Stop this and say what you were saying.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's visit to Al-Ruhayyi bint Muawwidh b. 'Afra after she was married. He was sitting on her bedding when some little girls began playing a tambourine and eulogizing those who were killed in the battle of Badr. The Prophet then encouraged them to continue what they were saying by reminding them that he was also present among them as a prophet who knows what will happen tomorrow. This hadith teaches us that we should always remember our ancestors and their sacrifices for us while also recognizing the prophetic knowledge that Allah has bestowed upon His Messenger Muhammad (PBUH). We should also be mindful not to forget our religious duties even in times of joy such as marriage celebrations or other happy occasions.
