Sahih al-Bukhari 2634 (Book 51, Hadith 66) #2520
Giving Away Freely is Better Than Charging Rent

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) suggested that it would be better for the owner of a land to give it away for free rather than charging a fixed rent.

Narrated Tawus: That he was told by the most learned one amongst them (ie Ibn 'Abbas) that the Prophet went towards some land which was flourishing with vegetation and asked to whom it belonged. He was told that such and such a person took it on rent. The Prophet said, "It would have been better (for the owner) if he had given it to him gratis rather than charging him a fixed rent.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be generous whenever possible by giving away freely without expecting anything in return .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of giving away freely and not charging rent. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was travelling and saw a piece of land that was flourishing with vegetation. He asked who owned the land, and he was told that someone had taken it on rent. The Prophet ﷺ then said that it would have been better if the owner had given it to him without any payment or compensation instead of charging him a fixed rent. This teaches us an important lesson about generosity; we should always strive to give away freely without expecting anything in return, as this will bring us closer to Allah SWT and earn us His blessings in this world and in the hereafter. We should also remember that Allah SWT has promised great rewards for those who are generous with their wealth, so we should always strive to be generous whenever possible.
