Sunan Abi Dawud 4854 (Book 43, Hadith 82) #25145
Recognizing the Prophet's Intentions

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would take off his sandals or something he was wearing when he got up intending to return, and his Companions would stay where they were.

Narrated AbudDarda': The Messenger of Allah would sit and we would also sit around him. If he got up intending to return, he would take off his sandals or something he was wearing, and his Companions recognizing his purpose (that he would return) would stay where they were.

QUICK LESSONS:
Show respect towards elders; Be mindful of others' feelings; Be patient with people who may not have same level understanding as you; Try to understand where others are coming from.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks of the respect and reverence that the companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had for him. Whenever he got up intending to leave, they would recognize his purpose and stay in their places out of respect for him. This shows us how important it is to show respect towards our elders, especially those who are close to us like our parents or teachers. We should always be mindful of their feelings and intentions, even if we don't understand them right away. It also teaches us that we should be patient with people who may not have the same level of understanding as us; instead of getting frustrated with them, we should try to understand where they are coming from and show them kindness and patience.
