The Reward for Suppressing Anger

SUMMARY: Suppressing anger when in a position to give vent to it will be rewarded with a choice of bright and large eyed maidens on the Day of Resurrection.

Narrated Mu'adh ibn Anas: The Messenger of Allah said: If anyone suppresses anger when he is in a position to give vent to it, Allah, the Exalted, will call him on the Day of Resurrection over the heads of all creatures, and ask him to choose any of the bright and large eyed maidens he wishes. Abu Dawud said: The name of the transmitter Abu Marhum is 'Abd al-Rahman b. Maimun
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ السَّرْحِ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، - يَعْنِي ابْنَ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ - عَنْ أَبِي مَرْحُومٍ، عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَنْ كَظَمَ غَيْظًا - وَهُوَ قَادِرٌ عَلَى أَنْ يُنْفِذَهُ - دَعَاهُ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَى رُءُوسِ الْخَلاَئِقِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حَتَّى يُخَيِّرَهُ اللَّهُ مِنَ الْحُورِ مَا شَاءَ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ اسْمُ أَبِي مَرْحُومٍ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَيْمُونٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the reward for suppressing anger when one is in a position to give vent to it. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that Allah will call the person on the Day of Resurrection over all creatures and ask him to choose any bright and large eyed maidens he wishes as his reward. This hadith teaches us that we should always try our best not to get angry, even if we are provoked or hurt by someone else's words or actions. It also shows us how generous Allah is with His rewards; He gives us something beautiful as a reward for controlling our emotions! We should strive hard every day to practice self control so that we can receive this great blessing from Allah on the Day of Judgment.
