Refusing Worldly Things

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) saw a decorated curtain on Fatima's door and refused to enter because he was not interested in worldly things. He suggested that she give it away to the needy.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: Once the Prophet went to the house of Fatima but did not enter it'.Ali came and she told him about that. When 'All asked the Prophet about it, he said, "I saw a (multicolored) decorated curtain on her door. I am not interested in worldly things"'.Ali went to Fatima and told her about it. Fatima said, "I am ready to dispense with it in the way he suggests". The Prophet ordered her to send it to such-and-such needy people".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's refusal of worldly things. He was visiting his daughter, Fatima, when he noticed a multicolored, decorated curtain on her door. Instead of entering her house, he chose not to because he was not interested in worldly things. When Ali asked him why he did not enter, the Prophet explained his reasoning and then suggested that Fatima give it away to those who are in need. This hadith teaches us that we should be content with what we have and should be generous towards those who are less fortunate than us by giving them our excess possessions or wealth if possible. It also shows us how important it is for us to stay away from materialistic desires as they can lead us astray from our faith and values as Muslims.
