Sahih al-Bukhari 2575 (Book 51, Hadith 10) #2464
Eating Something Even If One Does Not Like It

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) ate the dried yogurt and butter but left the mastigure because he disliked it, showing that it is permissible to eat something even if one does not like it.

Narrated Sa'id bin Jubair: Ibn 'Abbas said: Um Hufaid, Ibn 'Abbas's aunt sent some dried yogurt (butter free), ghee (butter) and a mastigure to the Prophet as a gift. The Prophet ate the dried yogurt and butter but left the mastigure because he disliked it. Ibn 'Abbas said, "The mastigure was eaten at the table of Allah's Messenger and if it had been illegal to eat, it could not have been eaten at the table of Allah's Messenger ".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be tolerant towards things you don't prefer or enjoy eating

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith tells us about a situation where Um Hufaid, Ibn 'Abbas's aunt sent some dried yogurt, ghee and a mastigure to the Prophet ﷺ as a gift. The Prophet ﷺ ate the dried yogurt and butter but left the mastigure because he disliked it. Ibn 'Abbas said that even though the Prophet ﷺ did not like this food item, he still allowed it to be eaten at his table which shows that we can still eat something even if we do not like it. This teaches us an important lesson of being tolerant towards things we do not prefer or enjoy eating. We should also remember that Allah knows what is best for us so He may have put something in our lives which may seem unpleasant at first but will eventually benefit us in some way or another.
