Rejecting Gifts in Ihram

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) was presented with a gift, but he rejected it due to being in the state of Ihram.

Narrated As-Sa'b bin Jath-thama: An Onager was presented to Allah's Messenger at the place called Al-Abwa' or Waddan, but Allah's Apostle rejected it. When the Prophet noticed the signs of sorrow on the giver's face he said, "We have not rejected your gift, but we are in the state of Ihram".

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's rejection of a gift while he was in the state of Ihram. The Prophet was presented with an Onager at a place called Al-Abwa' or Waddan, but due to being in the state of Ihram, he could not accept it. When he noticed that his rejection caused sadness on the giver's face, he reassured them that they had not rejected their gift and explained why they could not accept it. This hadith teaches us that even though we may be restricted from certain activities during times such as Hajj or Umrah, we should still be mindful and respectful towards others and their feelings. We should also remember to be thankful for what we have been given even if we cannot accept it at that time.
