Sahih al-Bukhari 246 (Book 4, Hadith 112) #246
Giving Respect To Elders

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) had a dream in which he was cleaning his teeth with a Siwak and two persons came to him. He was told to give the Siwak to the older person, so he did.

Narrated Ibn 'Umar: The Prophet said, "I dreamt that I was cleaning my teeth with a Siwak and two persons came to me. One of them was older than the other and I gave the Siwak to the younger. I was told that I should give it to the older and so I did".

QUICK LESSONS:
Give respect & precedence to elders . Listen carefully when Allah speaks through His prophets or any other means such as dreams & visions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about respecting elders and giving them precedence over younger people. It is narrated by Ibn 'Umar that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had a dream in which he was cleaning his teeth with a Siwak, and two persons came to him. One of them was older than the other, so he gave the Siwak to the younger one first but then an unseen voice told him that it should be given to the elder one instead. This teaches us that we should always respect our elders and give them precedence over younger people even if it means sacrificing something for them or going out of our way for their benefit. We should also remember that Allah knows best what is right for us, so we must always listen carefully when He speaks through His prophets or through any other means such as dreams or visions.
