Sunan Abi Dawud 4294 (Book 39, Hadith 4) #24585
The Destruction of Yathrib and Flourishing State of Jerusalem

SUMMARY: This hadith speaks of the destruction of Yathrib and the flourishing state of Jerusalem, as well as the great war that will occur at Constantinople when the Dajjal (Antichrist) appears.

Narrated Mu'adh ibn Jabal: The Prophet said: The flourishing state of Jerusalem will be when Yathrib is in ruins, the ruined state of Yathrib will be when the great war comes, the outbreak of the great war will be at the conquest of Constantinople and the conquest of Constantinople when the Dajjal (Antichrist) comes forth. He (the Prophet) struck his thigh or his shoulder with his hand and said: This is as true as you are here or as you are sitting (meaning Mu'adh ibn Jabal).

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Mu'adh ibn Jabal and it speaks about a series of events that will take place in the future. It states that when Yathrib is destroyed, Jerusalem will flourish. Then, a great war will break out at Constantinople when the Antichrist appears. The Prophet then affirmed this statement with conviction by striking his thigh or shoulder with his hand to emphasize its truthfulness. This hadith teaches us to be prepared for what lies ahead in our lives and to have faith in God's plan for us no matter how difficult it may seem. It also reminds us to remain hopeful even during times of hardship because better days are always ahead if we trust in God's plan for us.
