The Sayyid of Justice

SUMMARY: Ali's son al-Hasan is a sayyid and from his loins will come forth a man who will be called by the name of the Prophet and resemble him in conduct but not in appearance. He will fill the earth with justice.

Abu Dawud said: Abu Ishaq told that Ali looked at his son al-Hasan and said: This son of mine is a sayyid (chief) as named by the Prophet , and from his loins will come forth a man who will be called by the name of your Prophet and resemble him in conduct but not in appearance. He then mentioned the story about his filling the earth with justice.
الْمُغِيرَةِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ أَبِي قَيْسٍ، عَنْ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، قَالَ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ - رضى الله عنه - وَنَظَرَ إِلَى ابْنِهِ الْحَسَنِ فَقَالَ إِنَّ ابْنِي هَذَا سَيِّدٌ كَمَا سَمَّاهُ النَّبِيُّ وَسَيَخْرُجُ مِنْ صُلْبِهِ رَجُلٌ يُسَمَّى بِاسْمِ نَبِيِّكُمْ يُشْبِهُهُ فِي الْخُلُقِ وَلاَ يُشْبِهُهُ فِي الْخَلْقِ ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ قِصَّةَ يَمْلأُ الأَرْضَ عَدْلاً

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about how Ali looked at his son al-Hasan and said that he was a sayyid or chief as named by the Prophet. It also mentions that from his loins would come forth a man who would be called by the name of the Prophet and resemble him in conduct but not in appearance. This man would fill the earth with justice, which is an important value to uphold according to Islamic teachings. This hadith emphasizes on justice being an important value to strive for, as it should be spread throughout all parts of life - both personal and public - so that everyone can benefit from it equally. It also shows us how we should strive to emulate our beloved prophet Muhammad's character traits such as kindness, mercy, compassion etc., even if we cannot look like him physically.
