Reading Maliki Yawmid-Din

SUMMARY: The Prophet, Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman used to read "maliki yawmid-din" which was first read by Marwan.

Narrated Ibn al-Musayyab: The Prophet , AbuBakr, Umar and Uthman used to read "maliki yawmid-din (master of the Day of Judgment)". The first to read maliki yawmid-din was Marwan. Abu Dawud said: This is sounder that the tradition which transmitted by al-Zuhri from Anas, and al-Zuhri from Salim, from his father (Ibn 'Umar).
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ حَنْبَلٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، أَخْبَرَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، قَالَ مَعْمَرٌ وَرُبَّمَا ذَكَرَ ابْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ قَالَ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ وَعُثْمَانُ يَقْرَءُونَ ‏{‏ مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ ‏}‏ وَأَوَّلُ مَنْ قَرَأَهَا ‏{‏ مَلِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ ‏}‏ مَرْوَانُ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ هَذَا أَصَحُّ مِنْ حَدِيثِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَالزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ سَالِمٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of reciting the phrase “Maliki Yawmid Din” which translates to “Master of the Day of Judgment”. It is narrated by Ibn Al Musayyab that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ along with his companions Abu Bakr, Umar and Uthman used to recite this phrase. It is also mentioned that it was first recited by Marwan. This hadith teaches us about the importance of being mindful and aware that one day we will be held accountable for our actions in front of Allah SWT on the day of judgment. We should always remember this fact and strive to do good deeds so that we can be rewarded on that day inshaAllah! We should also make sure to recite this phrase often as a reminder for ourselves so that we can stay focused on our purpose in life - pleasing Allah SWT through our actions!
