Freedom from Prohibited Degrees of Marriage

SUMMARY: A person who is related to another person within the prohibited degrees of marriage can be freed from that relationship.

Narrated Umar ibn al-Khattab: Qatadah reported Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) as saying: If anyone gets possession of a relative who is within the prohibited degrees, that person becomes free.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَنْبَارِيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، - رضى الله عنه - قَالَ مَنْ مَلَكَ ذَا رَحِمٍ مَحْرَمٍ فَهُوَ حُرٌّ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that if a person is related to another person within the prohibited degrees of marriage, then they can be freed from that relationship. The prohibited degrees are those relationships which are not allowed in Islam, such as a man marrying his mother or sister. Umar ibn al-Khattab was one of the companions of Prophet Muhammad and he said that if someone gets possession of a relative who is within these prohibited degrees, then they become free. This means that they do not have to stay in this relationship and can be freed from it. This hadith teaches us about the importance of respecting Islamic laws and regulations when it comes to marriage and family relationships.
