Sahih al-Bukhari 2529 (Book 49, Hadith 13) #2420
Intention Determines Reward

SUMMARY: The reward of deeds depends on the intentions behind them, and each person will be rewarded according to their intentions.

Narrated 'Umar bin Al-Khattab: The Prophet said, "The (reward of) deeds depend on intentions, and every person will get the reward according to what he intends. So, whoever migrated for Allah and His Apostle, then his migration will be for Allah and His Apostle, and whoever migrated for worldly benefits or for marrying a woman, then his migration will be for what he migrated for".

QUICK LESSONS:
Have good intentions in all your actions.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that the reward for any action is determined by the intention behind it. For example, if someone migrates for Allah and His Apostle then they will receive a reward from Allah for this action. However, if someone migrates for worldly benefits or to marry a woman then they will only receive a reward based on their intention. This teaches us that we should always strive to have good intentions in all our actions so that we can receive rewards from Allah. It also reminds us that even small actions can have great rewards if done with sincere intentions.
