Sunan Abi Dawud 3646 (Book 26, Hadith 6) #23936
Writing Down What We Hear From The Prophet

SUMMARY: The hadith is about the importance of writing down what one hears from the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) as only truth comes out of his mouth.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As: I used to write everything which I heard from the Messenger of Allah . I intended (by it) to memorize it. The Quraysh prohibited me saying: Do you write everything that you hear from him while the Messenger of Allah is a human being: he speaks in anger and pleasure? So I stopped writing, and mentioned it to the Messenger of Allah . He signalled with his finger to him mouth and said: Write, by Him in Whose hand my soul lies, only right comes out from it.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is narrated by Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-'As and it speaks about the importance of writing down what one hears from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). The Quraysh prohibited him from doing so as they thought that he speaks in anger and pleasure. However, when he mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) he was given a sign with his finger to his mouth and was told to write it down as only right comes out from it. This hadith teaches us that we should always write down what we hear from our beloved prophet as only truth comes out of his mouth. It also teaches us that we should not be discouraged by people who try to stop us from doing something good or beneficial for ourselves. We should always strive for knowledge and never give up on learning even if people try to discourage us.
