Sunan Abi Dawud 3564 (Book 24, Hadith 149) #23854
The Prophet's Borrowing

SUMMARY: The Prophet borrowed something from someone and then returned it.

The tradition mentioned above has also been transmitted by 'Ata from some people of the descendants of Safwan saying: The Prophet borrowed. He then transmitted the rest of the tradition to the same effect.

QUICK LESSONS:
Return what you borrow on time
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks to the importance of returning what one has borrowed. It is narrated by 'Ata from some people of the descendants of Safwan that the Prophet borrowed something and then returned it. This hadith teaches us that we should always return what we have taken, whether it be money, an item, or even a favor. We should also be mindful when lending things out to others as well, as we should expect them to return whatever they have taken in a timely manner. Furthermore, this hadith serves as an example for us to follow in our own lives; just like how the Prophet was mindful about returning what he had borrowed, so too should we strive to do the same in our own lives.
