Sunan Abi Dawud 3553 (Book 24, Hadith 138) #23843
Inheriting Life-Tenancy Property

SUMMARY: Property given to someone in life-tenancy is theirs and their descendants' to keep, and does not return to the one who gave it.

Narrated Jabir: The Messenger of Allah as saying: If anyone has property given him in life-tenancy for the use of himself and his descendants, it belongs to the one to whom it is given and does not return to the one who gave it, because he gave a gift which may be inherited.

QUICK LESSONS:
Give gifts generously . Respect gifts . Follow inheritance laws .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that when someone is given property in life-tenancy, it belongs to them and their descendants. This means that the property will stay with them even after they pass away, and will not be returned back to the person who gave it. The person who gave the property has already given a gift which can be inherited by those who are entitled to receive it. This hadith teaches us about inheritance laws as well as how important gifts are for our loved ones. It also shows us how generous Allah is in giving us what we need or deserve according to His will.
