Forbidden Land Cultivation Agreement

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade a type of land cultivation agreement called mukhabarah.

Narrated Zaid b. Thabit: The Messenger of Allah forbade mukhabarah. I asked: What is mukhabarah ? He replied: That you have the land (for cultivation) for half, a third, or a quarter (of the produce).

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for fairness in all dealings with others; Make sure everyone involved is getting what they deserve from any agreements or contracts entered into; Follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the Prophet Muhammad's prohibition of a type of land cultivation agreement known as mukhabarah. In this agreement, one party would have the land for cultivation and receive half, a third or a quarter of the produce in return. The Prophet Muhammad forbade this practice because it was unfair to those who owned the land and did not provide them with enough compensation for their labor and resources. He wanted to ensure that everyone was treated fairly when it came to agreements involving land ownership and production. This hadith teaches us that we should always strive for fairness in our dealings with others and make sure that everyone involved is getting what they deserve from any agreement or contract they enter into.
