Sahih al-Bukhari 2469 (Book 46, Hadith 30) #2364
Keeping Oaths and Promises

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) took an oath not to go to his wives for a month due to a sprained foot, but he ended up going after twenty-nine days.

Narrated Anas: Allah's Messenger took an oath that he would not go to his wives for one month as his foot had been sprained. He stayed in an upper room when 'Umar went to him and said, "Have you divorced your wives?" He said, "No, but I have taken an oath that I would not go to them for one month". The Prophet stayed there for twenty-nine days, and then came down and went to his wives.

QUICK LESSONS:
Keep your word when you make promises or take an oaths

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of keeping one's oaths and promises. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ took an oath that he would not go to his wives for one month due to a sprained foot. Umar asked him if he had divorced them and the Prophet replied that he had taken an oath not to go near them for one month. He stayed away from them for twenty-nine days before finally going back after fulfilling his promise. This teaches us that we should always keep our word when we make promises or take an oath as it is important in Islam and shows our commitment towards Allah SWT. We should also be patient when faced with difficult situations as the Prophet ﷺ showed us by staying away from his wives despite being married to them for so long.
