Breaking Oaths with Exceptions

SUMMARY: It is permissible to break an oath if one has made an exception while taking it.

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: The Prophet said: If anyone swears an oath and makes an exception, he may fulfill it if he wishes and break it if he wishes without any accountability for breaking.

QUICK LESSONS:
Make decisions based on what is best for you in each situation .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains that if a person swears an oath and makes an exception, they are allowed to fulfill or break the oath without any accountability for breaking it. This means that if someone takes an oath and then adds a condition or exception, they can choose whether to keep the promise or not without being held accountable for breaking it. For example, if someone says "I swear I will never eat chocolate again" but then adds "unless I'm really craving it", they can choose whether to keep their promise or not depending on how much they want chocolate at the time. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this so that we don't feel too bound by our promises and can make decisions based on what is best for us in each situation.
