Sunan Abi Dawud 2860 (Book 17, Hadith 17) #23150
Staying Away from Kings

SUMMARY: It is not wise to be too close to a king, as it will take away from one's devotion to Allah.

Narrated AbuHurayrah: The Prophet said: He said: He who sticks to a king is perverted. This version adds: The nearer a servant (of Allah) goes to a king, the farther he keeps away from Allah.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be loyal both to rulers of this world as well as Almighty God Himself .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith warns us against getting too close to kings and rulers. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that if we become too attached or devoted to a king, it will take away from our devotion and loyalty towards Allah. We should remember that our ultimate loyalty should be towards Allah alone, and not any other person or ruler. We must also remember that no matter how powerful a ruler may seem, they are still only human and have limited power compared to the power of Allah. Therefore, we should strive for balance in our lives by being loyal both to the rulers of this world as well as the Ruler of all worlds - Almighty God Himself.
