Performing 'Aqiqah for Newborns

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised to perform an 'Aqiqah for a newborn baby and to remove any harm from them.

Narrated Salman b. 'Amir al-Dabbi: The Messenger of Allah as saying: Along with a boy there is an 'Aqiqah, so shed blood on his behalf, and remove injury from him.
حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، حَدَّثَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ، عَنْ حَفْصَةَ بِنْتِ سِيرِينَ، عَنِ الرَّبَابِ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ الضَّبِّيِّ، قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ مَعَ الْغُلاَمِ عَقِيقَتُهُ فَأَهْرِيقُوا عَنْهُ دَمًا وَأَمِيطُوا عَنْهُ الأَذَى

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Salman b. 'Amir al-Dabbi states that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) advised to perform an 'Aqiqah for a newborn baby and to remove any harm from them. An ‘Aqiqah is a ritual sacrifice of an animal such as a sheep or goat in celebration of the birth of a child. It is believed that this practice was done by the Prophet Ibrahim and his family when Ismail was born as mentioned in the Quran. This hadith also emphasizes on protecting children from any kind of harm or injury which could be physical or psychological in nature. It is important to ensure that children are provided with love and care so they can grow up into healthy individuals who are capable of contributing positively towards society.
