Eating What Falls Beneath Palm Trees

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ taught a young boy not to throw stones at the palm trees, but to eat what falls beneath them. He then prayed for Allah to fill the boy's belly.

Narrated The uncle of AbuRafi ibn Amr al-Ghifari: I was a boy. I used to throw stones at the palm-trees of the Ansar. So I was brought to the Prophet who said: O boy, why do you throw stones at the palm-trees? I said: eat (dates). He said: Do not throw stones at the palm trees, but eat what falls beneath them. He then wiped his head and said: O Allah, fill his belly.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be kind and patient with children when they make mistakes; Take advantage of natural resources; Be thankful for blessings from Allah; Respect nature

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about teaching a young boy not to throw stones at the palm trees, but rather eat what falls beneath them. The Prophet (ﷺ) was very kind and patient with this young boy, as he asked him why he was throwing stones instead of eating what fell from the tree. After understanding his mistake, he then prayed for Allah to fill his belly so that he would never go hungry again. This hadith teaches us that we should be kind and patient with children when they make mistakes and that we should always be thankful for whatever blessings Allah has given us. It also teaches us that it is better to take advantage of natural resources than it is to destroy them in an effort to get something out of them.
