Sunan Abi Dawud 2248 (Book 13, Hadith 74) #22539
Determining Truth Through Childbirth

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ described a child that would be born to a couple who had invoked curses on each other, and the description of the child was used to determine which of them was telling the truth.

Sahl bin Sa’ad reported the Apostle of Allaah as saying - in the tradition of spouses who invoked curses to each other "Look if she bears a child which has very black eyes, large buttocks, I cannot but imagine that he (ie, Uwaimir) has spoken the truth. But, if she bears a reddish child like the lizard with red spots (waharah), I cannot imagine that Uwaimir has lied against her. She gave birth to a child (like that described the Prophet ) in a detestable manner.

QUICK LESSONS:
Strive for honesty in relationships; Do not resort to cursing or insulting each other when disagreeing; Find ways to resolve conflicts peacefully; Respect others even during difficult situations.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about how couples who have invoked curses on each other can use childbirth as a way to determine which one is telling the truth. The Prophet (ﷺ) described what kind of child would be born if one of them was lying, and what kind of child would be born if they were both telling the truth. This teaches us that we should always strive for honesty in our relationships, and that we should not resort to cursing or insulting each other when we disagree. We should also remember that even in difficult situations, there are ways to find out what is true and right.
