Running Between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) and his Companions only ran between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah once.

Jabir bin 'Abdallah said "Neither the Prophet nor his Companions ran between Al Safa’ and Al Marwah except once and that was his first running".

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow religious requirements precisely

EXPLANATIONS:
During the pilgrimage to Makkah, one of the rituals is to run seven times between two hills called Al Safa’ and Al Marwah. This hadith tells us that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ only ran between these two hills once during his first pilgrimage. This shows us that it is not necessary to run more than once in order to fulfill this ritual. It also teaches us that we should be mindful of our actions when performing religious rituals as we should not do more than what is required or necessary. We should also strive for moderation in all aspects of our lives as this was a practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself.
