Recitation of the Quran on Fridays

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to recite a particular verse from the Quran after reciting Surah al-Jumu'ah on Fridays.

Al-Dahhak b. Qais asked al-Nu'man b. Bashir: What did the Messenger of Allah recited on Friday after reciting the Surah al-Jumu'ah (62). He replied: He used to recite, "Had the story of overwhelming event reached you ?" (88).

QUICK LESSONS:
Obey Allah's Commands

EXPLANATIONS:
Every Friday Muslims are obligated to attend congregational prayer in the mosque and listen to a sermon given by an Imam or religious leader. After this sermon is finished, it is customary for the Imam or religious leader to recite verses from the Holy Qur’an. This hadith tells us that after reciting Sura al Juma’a which is usually read during this time of prayer, Prophet Muhammad would then recite another verse from chapter 88 of the Qur’an which reads “Had not there come unto you your Lord's command?” This verse serves as a reminder for us that Allah has sent down His commands and laws for us to follow in our lives so that we may be successful both in this world and in the hereafter. It also serves as an encouragement for us to strive hard towards fulfilling these commands so that we can attain success both here and hereafter.
