The Prophet's Generosity

SUMMARY: The Prophet (ﷺ) bought a sheep from a pagan.

Narrated 'Abdur-Rahman bin Abu Bakr: We were with the Prophet when a tall pagan with long matted unkempt hair came driving his sheep. The Prophet asked him, "Are those sheep for sale or for gifts?" The pagan replied, "They are for sale". The Prophet bought one sheep from him.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النُّعْمَانِ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي عُثْمَانَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي بَكْرٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ ثُمَّ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ مُشْرِكٌ مُشْعَانٌّ طَوِيلٌ بِغَنَمٍ يَسُوقُهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ‏ "‏ بَيْعًا أَمْ عَطِيَّةً أَوْ قَالَ أَمْ هِبَةً ‏"‏‏.‏ قَالَ لاَ بَلْ بَيْعٌ‏.‏ فَاشْتَرَى مِنْهُ شَاةً‏.‏

This hadith narrates an incident that happened between the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and a pagan man who was selling his sheep. The Prophet ﷺ asked him if the sheep were for sale or gifts, to which the man replied that they were for sale. The Prophet ﷺ then proceeded to buy one of them, showing his generosity and kindness towards others regardless of their faith or beliefs. This hadith teaches us to be generous with our wealth and resources, even when dealing with people who may not share our beliefs or values. It also shows us how we should treat others with respect and kindness regardless of their background or religion. We should strive to emulate this example set by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in our own lives by being generous and kind towards all people we meet in our daily lives.
