Sunan Abi Dawud 813 (Book 2, Hadith 423) #21104
Abrogation of Long Surahs

SUMMARY: This hadith suggests that the recitation of long surahs is abrogated and a shorter version is more sound.

HIsham b '.Urwah said that his father ('Umrah) used to recite the surahs as you recite like Wa’l-Adiyat(surah c). Abu Dawud said: This indicates that those (traditions indicating long surahs) are abrogated, and this is more sound tradition.

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith discusses the recitation of surahs in the Quran. Hisham b. 'Urwah reported that his father used to recite short versions of surahs, such as Wa’l-Adiyat, instead of longer versions. Abu Dawud then commented on this tradition by saying that it indicates that those traditions indicating long surahs are abrogated and this shorter version is more sound. This hadith teaches us to be mindful when reciting the Quran and to follow what has been deemed as more sound by Islamic scholars. It also emphasizes the importance of following Islamic teachings even if they differ from our own opinions or beliefs about certain topics or issues in Islam.
