Sunan Abi Dawud 722 (Book 2, Hadith 332) #21013
Prayer Ritual of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

SUMMARY: The hadith explains the prayer ritual of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and how he raised his hands when uttering takbir before bowing.

'Abd Allah b. Umar said: The Messenger of Allah used to raise his hands opposite his shoulders when he began prayer, then he uttered takbir (Allah is most great) in the same condition, and then he bowed. And when he raised his back (head) after bowing he raised them opposite his shoulders, and said: "Allah listens to him who praises Him". But he did not raise his hand when he prostrated himself; he rather raised them when he uttered the takbir (Allah is most great) before bowing until his prayer is finished.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow in the footsteps of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) during salah by raising your hands opposite your shoulders when uttering takbir before bowing .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith explains the prayer ritual of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, which is a part of Islamic practice. According to this hadith, when beginning prayer, the Prophet ﷺ used to raise his hands opposite his shoulders and utter takbir or ‘Allah is most great’ in that same condition. He then bowed down for ruku’ and when he raised his head after bowing, he again raised his hands opposite his shoulders and said “Allah listens to him who praises Him”. However, he did not raise his hands while prostrating himself but only while uttering takbir before bowing until the end of the prayer. This shows us that we should follow in the footsteps of our beloved prophet ﷺ in our prayers as it is an important part of our faith as Muslims.
