Sunan Abi Dawud 662 (Book 2, Hadith 272) #20953
Straightening Rows in Prayer

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) emphasized the importance of straightening rows in prayer and warned that if people do not, Allah will put their faces in contrary directions.

Al-Nu’man b. Bashir said: the Messenger of Allah paid attention to the people and said three times; straighten your rows (in prayer); by Allah, you must straighten your rows, or Allah will certainly put your faces in contrary directions. I then saw that every person stood in prayer keeping his shoulder close to that of the other, and his knee close to that of the other, and his ankle close to that of the other.

QUICK LESSONS:
Stand close together with your shoulders touching each other's, knees touching each other's and ankles touching each other's while praying .

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us the importance of straightening our rows when we pray. He said that if we don't, Allah will turn our faces away from each other. To ensure this doesn't happen, he instructed us to stand close together with our shoulders touching each other's, knees touching each other's and ankles touching each other's. This is so that everyone is standing in a neat line and facing the same direction when praying to Allah. It teaches us to be organized and disciplined when worshipping God as well as being respectful towards one another by not leaving gaps between ourselves during prayer time.
