Praying 'Asr at High Noon

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray the 'Asr prayer when the sun was high and bright, and he would reach al-'Awali while the sun was still high.

Anas b. Malik said the Messenger of Allah used to say the 'Asr prayer when the sun was high and bright and living, then one would go off to al-'Awali and get there while the sun was still high.
حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، أَنَّهُ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَانَ يُصَلِّي الْعَصْرَ وَالشَّمْسُ بَيْضَاءُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ حَيَّةٌ وَيَذْهَبُ الذَّاهِبُ إِلَى الْعَوَالِي وَالشَّمْسُ مُرْتَفِعَةٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith of Anas b. Malik speaks of the importance of punctuality in prayer. According to this hadith, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to pray his 'Asr prayer when the sun was high and bright in the sky. He would then travel to al-'Awali while it was still midday; this shows that he valued punctuality in his prayers and wanted to ensure that they were performed on time. This hadith also teaches us about how important it is for Muslims to be mindful of their obligations towards Allah SWT by performing their prayers on time as prescribed by Islamic law. Additionally, it serves as a reminder for us all that we should strive for excellence in our worship by being punctual with our prayers and other religious duties so that we can reap its rewards both here on earth and hereafter in Jannah insha'Allah!
