Tayammum: A Ritual of Purification

SUMMARY: The Prophet (PBUH) taught Ammar b. Yasir how to perform tayammum, which is a ritual of purification using sand or dust instead of water.

'Ammar b. Yasir said: I asked the Prophet about tayammum. He commanded me to strike only one stroke (ie the strike the ground) for (wiping) the face and the hands.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ، حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ زُرَيْعٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدٍ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ عَزْرَةَ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ النَّبِيَّ عَنِ التَّيَمُّمِ فَأَمَرَنِي ضَرْبَةً وَاحِدَةً لِلْوَجْهِ وَالْكَفَّيْنِ
