Perform ablutions with mindfulness and piety; obey God's commands; wipe over your socks during abulition if necessary.

This hadith is about the Prophet's practice of performing ablution. It is narrated by Al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah that he poured water while the Prophet was performing ablution in the battle of Tabuk. He wiped over the upper part of his socks and their lower part. This indicates that it is permissible to wipe over one's socks during ablution instead of washing them every time one performs wudu. This hadith also teaches us to be mindful when we are performing our religious duties as even in a battle situation, the Prophet did not neglect his religious obligations such as wudu.
