QUICK LESSONS:
Follow the commands of the Prophet Muhammad regarding religious practices

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad sent out an expedition, which was affected by cold weather. When they returned to the Prophet, he commanded them to wipe over turbans and stockings. This hadith is about a practice known as Isti'la'ah in Arabic, which is wiping over certain items of clothing such as turbans or stockings instead of washing them when performing ablution for prayer. This practice was allowed by the Prophet so that people would not be overly burdened with having to wash their clothes every time they wanted to pray. It teaches us that Islam is a religion of ease and mercy; it does not burden its followers with unnecessary tasks or rituals but rather encourages simplicity in religious practices.
