The Purity of Water

SUMMARY: Water is pure and cannot be defiled by anything.

Narrated AbuSa'id al-Khudri: The people asked the Messenger of Allah : Can we perform ablution out of the well of Buda'ah, which is a well into which menstrual clothes, dead dogs and stinking things were thrown? He replied: Water is pure and is not defiled by anything.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ، وَالْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الأَنْبَارِيُّ، قَالُوا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، أَنَّهُ قِيلَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ أَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ بِئْرِ بُضَاعَةَ وَهِيَ بِئْرٌ يُطْرَحُ فِيهَا الْحِيَضُ وَلَحْمُ الْكِلاَبِ وَالنَّتْنُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ‏ "‏ الْمَاءُ طَهُورٌ لاَ يُنَجِّسُهُ شَىْءٌ ‏"‏ ‏.‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَقَالَ بَعْضُهُمْ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ رَافِعٍ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith speaks about the purity of water. It was narrated by AbuSa'id al-Khudri that the people asked the Messenger of Allah if they could perform ablution out of a well which contained menstrual clothes, dead dogs and stinking things. The Prophet replied that water is pure and cannot be defiled by anything. This hadith teaches us that water is a blessing from Allah and it should not be taken for granted or misused in any way. It also teaches us to respect all forms of life as even dead animals should not be thrown into wells or other sources of water as it can contaminate them. Furthermore, this hadith also serves as a reminder to us to always keep our environment clean so we can benefit from its blessings without any harm coming our way.
