Using the Right Hand for Cleanliness

SUMMARY: The Prophet ﷺ used his right hand for activities that are considered clean and his left hand for activities that are considered unclean.

Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: The Prophet used his right hand for getting water for ablution and taking food, and his left hand for his evacuation and for anything repugnant.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو تَوْبَةَ الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ، حَدَّثَنِي عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مَعْشَرٍ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَتْ يَدُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ الْيُمْنَى لِطُهُورِهِ وَطَعَامِهِ وَكَانَتْ يَدُهُ الْيُسْرَى لِخَلاَئِهِ وَمَا كَانَ مِنْ أَذًى

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the importance of cleanliness and using the right hand to do so. It was narrated by Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin who was a wife of Prophet Muhammad. The hadith states that the Prophet used his right hand for getting water for ablution and taking food while he used his left hand for evacuation and anything repugnant. This teaches us to use our right hands when doing something clean or pure such as eating or drinking while using our left hands when doing something unclean such as going to the bathroom or touching something dirty. By following this practice we can maintain a high level of hygiene in our lives which is important in order to stay healthy and safe from diseases.
