Sunan Abi Dawud 8 (Book 1, Hadith 8) #20299
Proper Restroom Etiquette

SUMMARY: The Prophet (sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) taught us how to use the restroom properly and instructed us to use three stones instead of dung or decayed bone.

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Apostle of Allaah ( sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam ) as saying: I am like father to you. When any of you goes to privy, he should not face or turn his back towards the qiblah. He should not cleanse with his right hand. He (the Prophet, sal Allaahu alayhi wa sallam) also commanded the Muslims to use three stones and forbade them to use dung or decayed bone.

QUICK LESSONS:
Follow proper etiquette when using the restroom; Face away from Qiblah; Cleanse with three stones; Avoid using dung or decayed bone

EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us proper etiquette when using the restroom. He said that we should not face or turn our backs towards the qiblah, which is a direction Muslims face when praying. We should also not cleanse ourselves with our right hand as this is considered unclean in Islamic teachings. Instead, we should use three stones for cleansing purposes and avoid using dung or decayed bone as these are considered unclean too. This hadith teaches us about proper hygiene and respect for Allah's house of worship by avoiding any disrespectful behavior while in the restroom.
