Buying a Hullah of Sundus

SUMMARY: The hadith is about Umar bringing a Hullah of Sundus to the Prophet Muhammad and asking him to buy it.

Yahya - bin Ishaq - said: "Salim said: 'What is Al-Istabraq?' I said: 'A thick type of Ad-Dibaj, and a coarse type of it'. He said: 'I heard 'Abdullah (bin 'Umar) say: "Umar saw a Hullah of Sundus with a man, and he brought it to the Messenger of Allah SAW and said: 'Buy this'" and he quoted the Hadith.

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful when shopping for clothes, Choose items which are modest and appropriate for our culture or religion, Be generous with our money when buying items for ourselves or others

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about Umar bringing a type of clothing called a Hullah of Sundus to the Prophet Muhammad and asking him to buy it. A Hullah was an outer garment made from thick fabric called Dibaj or Qutn. It was usually worn by men in the Arabian Peninsula during that time period. The Prophet Muhammad did not purchase the item but instead praised its quality and encouraged people to wear such garments as they were considered modest clothing at that time. This hadith teaches us that we should be mindful when shopping for clothes and choose items which are modest and appropriate for our culture or religion. We should also be generous with our money when buying items for ourselves or others, as this will bring us closer to Allah's pleasure.
