Prohibitions of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) forbade Ali from wearing certain garments, wearing gold rings, reciting the Quran while bowing and wearing Al-Qassi.

'Ali said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW forbade me from wearing garments dyed with safflower, and from gold rings, and from wearing Al-Qassi, and that I recite Qur'an while I am bowing".
أَخْبَرَنِي هَارُونُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْبٌ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ سَعْدٍ الْفَدَكِيُّ، أَنَّ نَافِعًا، أَخْبَرَهُ حَدَّثَنِي ابْنُ حُنَيْنٍ، أَنَّ عَلِيًّا، حَدَّثَهُ قَالَ نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ عَنْ ثِيَابِ الْمُعَصْفَرِ وَعَنْ خَاتَمِ الذَّهَبِ وَلُبْسِ الْقَسِّيِّ وَأَنْ أَقْرَأَ وَأَنَا رَاكِعٌ

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about the prohibitions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ for his companion Ali ibn Abi Talib. He forbade him from wearing garments dyed with safflower, which is known as zafaran in Arabic, and from gold rings which are known as dhahab in Arabic. He also prohibited him from reciting the Quran while bowing and from wearing al-qassiyyatun which is a type of clothing made out of leather or woolen fabric. These prohibitions were given to Ali by the Prophet ﷺ to ensure that he follows Islamic teachings properly and does not engage in any activities that are forbidden by Islam. The values taught through this hadith include following Islamic teachings properly, avoiding activities that are forbidden by Islam and respecting religious practices such as prayer and recitation of Quran.
