Compassion and Kindness in Mourning

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) showed compassion and kindness to the family of Ja'far after his death by shaving the heads of his sons.

It was narrated that 'Abdullah bin Ja'far said: "The Messenger of Allah SAW stayed away from the family of Ja'far (when he died) for three days, then he came to them, and said: 'Do not weep for my brother after today'. Then he said: 'Call my brother's sons to me'. We were brought like little chicks, and he said: 'Call the barber for me'. Then he ordered that our heads be shaved".

QUICK LESSONS:
Show compassion and kindness towards those who are grieving; Remember our loved ones with respect and dignity; Follow common practices during mourning such as qasaamah or istisqaa'.

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by 'Abdullah bin Ja'far tells us about the Prophet Muhammad's (SAW) compassion and kindness towards the family of Ja'far after his death. After three days, he visited them and told them not to weep for him anymore. He then asked for his brother's sons to be brought before him, who were described as being like little chicks. He then ordered that their heads be shaved as a sign of mourning, which was a common practice at that time known as qasaamah or istisqaa'. This hadith teaches us about how we should show compassion and kindness towards those who are grieving, even if it is something small like shaving their heads or offering words of comfort. It also shows us how important it is to remember our loved ones who have passed away with respect and dignity.
