Consult Islamic teachings before following what others do when it comes to adornment or jewelry.

This hadith is about the wearing of rings in Islam. It was narrated from Ibn 'Umar that the Messenger of Allah [SAW] put on a gold ring with its stone next to his palm. Seeing this, many people began to wear rings of gold as well. However, the Messenger of Allah [SAW] then discarded his own gold ring and instead acquired a silver one which he used only for sealing letters. This teaches us that although it is permissible for Muslims to wear rings made from either gold or silver, we should not follow blindly what others do without first consulting Islamic teachings on such matters. We should also be mindful not to go overboard with our adornment and jewelry as this can lead us away from piety and righteousness.
