Retaliation or Ransom?

SUMMARY: A person has the choice to either retaliate or take ransom if their relative is killed.

Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'If a person's relative is killed, he has the choice of two things: Either he may retaliate, or he may take the ransom"'.

QUICK LESSONS:
Consider all your options before taking action; resolve disputes peacefully without seeking revenge; think carefully before making decisions .

EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith is about a person's right to choose between retaliation and ransom when their relative is killed. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that if a person's relative is killed, they have the choice of two things - either they can retaliate against the killer, or they can take the ransom instead. This means that instead of taking revenge on the killer, they can accept money as compensation for their loss. This hadith teaches us that we should not always seek revenge when someone wrongs us; rather, we should consider other options such as accepting a ransom in order to resolve our disputes peacefully. It also teaches us that it is important to think carefully before making decisions and weigh up all our options before deciding what action to take.
