Selling What You Do Not Have

SUMMARY: It is not permissible to sell something that one does not have.

It was narrated that Hakim bin Hizam said: "I asked the Prophet "O Messenger of Allah, a man may come to me and ask me to sell him something that I do not have. Can I sell it to him then go and buy it from the market?' He said: 'Do not sell what you do not have'.''

QUICK LESSONS:
Be honest in your dealings with others

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Hakim bin Hizam speaks about the importance of honesty and integrity in business transactions. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prohibited selling something that one does not have, as it is a form of deception and fraud. This hadith teaches us to be honest in our dealings with others, even if it means we may lose out on a sale or profit. We should never resort to dishonesty or deceitful practices for personal gain, as this will only lead to harm and destruction in the long run. Furthermore, this hadith also serves as a reminder for us to be mindful of our words and actions when dealing with others, so that we can maintain good relationships with them based on trustworthiness and mutual respect.
