Forbidden Transactions and Garments in Islam

SUMMARY: The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) forbade two kinds of transactions and two kinds of garments.

It was narrated that Abu Sa'eed Al-Khudri said: "The Messenger of Allah forbade two kinds of garments and two kinds of transactions. As for the two kinds of transactions, they are Mulamash and Munabadhaha. Munabadha is when a man says, 'I throw this garment, and the transaction becomes binding, and Mulamasah is when a man touches it with his had, without spreading it out and checking it, and once he touches it, the transaction becomes binding".

QUICK LESSONS:
Be mindful when making any kind purchases or agreements; Take your time to inspect items before committing to them; Follow Islamic law regarding transactions and garments; Be honest in all transactions
EXPLANATIONS:
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) prohibited two types of transactions and garments. The first type of transaction is called Mulamash which is when a person touches an item with their hand without spreading it out or checking it. This makes the transaction binding. The second type of transaction is called Munabadhaha which is when a person says they are throwing an item and the transaction becomes binding. As for the two types of garments that were forbidden, this was not specified in the hadith but scholars have suggested that these could be silk clothing for men or gold jewelry for women as these were commonly worn during this time period. This hadith teaches us to be mindful when making any kind of purchase or agreement as we should always take our time to inspect items before committing to them so we can make sure we are getting what we paid for.
