Killing Animals Without Justification

SUMMARY: Killing animals without a justifiable reason is not allowed in Islam.

It was narrated from 'Abdullah bin 'Amr that the Messenger of Allah said: "There is no person who kills a small bird or anything larger for no just reason, but Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, will ask him about it". It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, what does just reason;' mean?" Her said: "That you slaughter it and eat it, and do not cut off its head and throw it aside".

QUICK LESSONS:
Respect all living creatures, Only take their lives when absolutely necessary .

EXPLANATIONS:
The hadith narrated by Abdullah bin 'Amr states that it is not permissible to kill any animal, be it small or large, without a justifiable reason. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ clarified what constitutes as a justifiable reason for killing an animal; that the animal should be slaughtered and eaten, and not killed and thrown away. This hadith teaches us to respect all living creatures and to only take their lives when absolutely necessary. It also serves as a reminder of the accountability we will face on the Day of Judgment for our actions in this world.
